Duravit was founded in 1817 and headquartered in Hornberg , Germany and is primarily manufacturer Duravit AG manufactures sanitary ceramics, bathroom furniture, accessories, and bath and spa products. It offers bathroom ceramics, including sinks, console basins, toilets, bidets, and urinals; bathroom furniture, such as cabinets, mirrors, consoles, and vanity units; tubs and showers, including bathtubs, shower trays, and screens and enclosures; well-being products, such as pools, sauna, and steam showers; and shower toilets. The company provides its products through distributors in Austria, Belgium/Luxembourg, Brazil, China, Denmark/Norway, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, the Middle East, the Netherlands, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The company has production sites in Germany, France, Egypt, Turkey, China, Tunesia, and India. It has sales offices in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Latin America, Singapore, the Russian Federation, Poland, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, and Taiwan.
Founded as a small earthenware factory by Georg Friedrich Horn in 1817 in the Black Forest Duravit did not begin to produce sanitary fixtures until the early 20th century such as sinks, bidets, and toilets. In the 1980s, the product line was expanded to offer bathroom accessories. The 1980s and 1990s were also characterized by various corporate acquisitions, including “Ceramique de Bischwiller in 1991, “MISR TECH” in 1999, and a partial stake in Laufen. This period also saw the further growth of product lines, including the introduction of bathroom furniture. In 1994, Duravit opened a new, modern plant for the production of sanitary ceramics.
Duravit’s expansion continued in the first decade of the 21st Century with the establishment of subsidiaries in Turkey, India and China. The Duravit Design Center in Hornberg, Designed by Philippe Starck, was also completed during this time. The brand is currently available in over 100 countries.
There are production facilities at several locations in Germany and abroad: Hornberg, Schenkenzell and Meißen in Germany and in Bischwiller (France), Cairo (Egypt), Istanbul (Turkey), Chongqing (China), Bizerte (Tunisia) and Tarapur (India) out of the country.

HISTORY OF THE ORGANIZATION:
Duravit India private limited is a private incorporated on 09 March 2006. It is classified as non government company and is registered at registrar of companies, Ahmadabad.
Duravit India Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Duravit AG, a Hornberg, Germany-based ceramic bathroom fittings manufacturing firm, launched its factory at Tarapur, 120 km away from Ahmadabad in Gujarat
“The factory, set up at an estimated investment of Rs 120 crore, will initially produce 500,000 pieces of ceramic bathroom fittings,” Ashutosh Shah, managing director, Duravit India Pvt Ltd said at the inauguration function.
This is Duravit AG’s first factory in India and 10th globally.
“We intend to double the capacity in the next 2 years at an estimated investment of Rs 15 crore. Our investment in doubling the capacity will not be as much as setting up the main factory because we already have installed some of the additional machinery needed to enhance the production,”.
He said the Duravit India has set first-year revenue target at around €30 million (Rs 179 crore).
Duravit AG’s annual turnover in 2009 stood at €300 million.
“This factory will mainly cater to the Indian market however, if there are surplus goods then we will export it to South Africa which is the nearest export market for us from India,” said Franz Kook, chairman and chief executive officer of Duravit AG.
About the local market, Kook said the Duravit India already supplies ceramic bathroom fittings to Indian realty and hospitality firms like DLF, ITC, Raheja and Taj Group and the factory would smoothen the supply process as the firm will not have to import the products anymore.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who inaugurated the facility at Tarapur said that he would like Duravit AG set up a hockey institute in Gujarat as Kook is a former hockey player.
Kook had first visited Ahmadabad way back in 1962 to participate in the International Hockey Tournament as a player from German team.
