“Live boldly

“Live boldly. Live well. Just live. You only get one life. Its actually your duty to live as fully as possible”, a striking line from the movie Me Before You starring Emilia Clarke as Louisa Clark, Sam Claflin as Will Traynor, and Matthew Lewis as Patrick. Everyone are capable of loving and wants to be love back someday. Everyone desires for a reciprocated love. This is why the screen adaptation of Jojo Moyes’ Me Before You is a must-see movie. It conveys a selfless love, about sacrificing your own state for the sake of the one you love. It was directed by Thea Sharrok and produced by Karen Rosenfelt and Alison Owen. The film was shot at different locations in United Kingdom. Its released date was on May 23, 2016(New York City) and on June 3, 2016(United States). According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Dramatic Movie in 2017.
The film was a bit of a typical love story but with a twist. It does not have a happily-ever-after, a heart-rending love at that. It is about a girl, Louisa Clark who is desperately looking for a job in order to support her family. She ended up being a caretaker of a paralyzed man, Will Traynor. Will is an athlete before he was paralyzed due to an accident. He is a man who is very impatient when it comes to his assigned caretaker. At first, he was not comfortable and welcoming to Lou but as time went by, their relationship became okay and they grew closer. Louisa, as a girl who is very jolly and enthusiastic, has somehow made a change in Will’s grumpy attitude. But, before Lou entered the picture, Will has promised his parents that he will end his life through euthanasia in six months. Before leaving, he talked to Lou that she must accept the reality that they will never be possible because of his condition and he apologized to her. What I liked about the film was it was very realistic. Today, there are cases in our society that are similar to what happened in the film. I really liked how the actors portrayed their respective roles. They actually made the audience believed that they are feeling what their supposed character must feel. The character of Louisa is whom I liked the most because her character is a happy-go-lucky person and I think she is very fit in portraying that character. When it comes to the cinematography, high angle shots were utilized to emphasize the beauty of the location. Through the camera angles that were used, it is clearly identified in the film the subject or person that is being focused in a certain scene. There were also close-up shots to feature a character’s expressions. What really melt my heart was the scene of Louisa and Will at the beach. It is where Will is telling Lou that they cannot continue their relationship and it actually broke my heart. Regarding the official soundtrack of the film, Ed Sheeran’s Photograph genuinely reflects the film’s message. It says that loving can hurt and love is not only about having that positive feeling or romantic excitement. With love, there is also pain that we can possibly feel. However, it is stated that love is the only thing that makes us feel alive. The general themes of the film was about love, sacrifice, and perseverance. It teaches us to love to the fullest regardless of whatever circumstances, to be selfless when it comes to love, and to persevere in life and aim for our dreams. The problem about the film’s theme was about it is like supporting end life issues and euthanasia. It is like they are giving the impression that it is better to end life rather than live as a disabled person.
Overall, I really admired the film. It is a two thumbs-up for me. The casts, cinematography, storyboard, sound, and message was really commendable. And I highly recommend this film. It teaches people to appreciate life and live life to the fullest.
