The Study Commission on Violence performs many different operations in its goal to curb violence. Foremost, the Study Commission on Violence studies the trends and sources of violence as well as the impacts that violence has on the communities. It also pursues grants and funding so that programs can be implemented to reduce violence. The Study Commission on Violence also studies the problem of insufficient access to mental health care and treatment. Violence and mental health treatment are often connected and this is important to address. The Study Commission on Violence has the unique job of making recommendations to the Special Offenders Unit to tackle the increase in criminal prosecutions against people with mental illnesses. Lastly, the Study Commission on Violence studies, recommends, and monitors community-based mental health treatment in all counties of New Jersey.
