Traditionally people with learning disabilities were discouraged to take risks as it might have been deemed too dangerous in some cases if they did. An example of this could be someone with a learning disability might not have full mental capacity and they wanted to go to the shops on their own, They might be told going by themselves was not allowed as the risk were too high by letting them go. Some of the risk could include getting lost, meeting other people that might want to harm the individual. Person centered views wasn’t enforced, the same as peoples choices wasn’t valued as much. They also might be discouraged due to the accountably of the social care setting being reasonable for the welfare of the individual. It also could be that family members are imposing their views and choices on what they think is best for the individual and not taking into account on what they wishes are.
